És 31:1-3És 36:4-6És 37:9.1 L’année où Tharthan, envoyé par Sargon, roi d’Assyrie, vint assiéger Asdod et s’en empara, 2 en ce temps-là l’Éternel adressa la parole à Ésaïe, fils d’Amots, et lui dit: Va, détache le sac de tes reins et ôte tes souliers de tes pieds. Il fit ainsi, marcha nu et déchaussé. 3 Et l’Éternel dit: De même que mon serviteur Ésaïe marche nu et déchaussé, ce qui sera dans trois ans un signe et un présage pour l’Égypte et pour l’Éthiopie, 4 de même le roi d’Assyrie emmènera de l’Égypte et de l’Éthiopie captifs et exilés les jeunes hommes et les vieillards, nus et déchaussés, et le dos découvert, à la honte de l’Égypte. 5 Alors on sera dans l’effroi et dans la confusion, à cause de l’Éthiopie en qui l’on avait mis sa confiance, et de l’Égypte dont on se glorifiait. 6 Et les habitants de cette côte diront en ce jour: Voilà ce qu’est devenu l’objet de notre attente, sur lequel nous avions compté pour être secourus, pour être délivrés du roi d’Assyrie! Comment échapperons-nous?
The Sign of the Naked Prophet
1 Under the orders of Emperor Sargon of Assyria, the commander-in-chief of the Assyrian army attacked the Philistine city of Ashdod. 2 Three years earlier the Lord had told Isaiah son of Amoz to take off his sandals and the sackcloth he was wearing. He obeyed and went around naked and barefoot. 3 When Ashdod was captured, the Lord said, “My servant Isaiah has been going around naked and barefoot for three years. This is a sign of what will happen to Egypt and Ethiopia. 4 The emperor of Assyria will lead away naked the prisoners he captures from those two countries. Young and old, they will walk barefoot and naked, with their buttocks exposed, bringing shame on Egypt. 5 Those who have put their trust in Ethiopia and have boasted about Egypt will be disillusioned, their hopes shattered. 6 When that time comes, the people who live along the coast of Philistia will say, ‘Look at what has happened to the people we relied on to protect us from the emperor of Assyria! How will we ever survive?’”
