Offrandes volontaires pour le temple

Ro 12:8.1 Le roi David dit à toute l’assemblée: Mon fils Salomon, le seul que Dieu ait choisi, est jeune et d’un âge faible, et l’ouvrage est considérable, car ce palais n’est pas pour un homme, mais il est pour l’Éternel Dieu. 2 J’ai mis toutes mes forces à préparer pour la maison de mon Dieu de l’or pour ce qui doit être d’or, de l’argent pour ce qui doit être d’argent, de l’airain pour ce qui doit être d’airain, du fer pour ce qui doit être de fer, et du bois pour ce qui doit être de bois, des pierres d’onyx et des pierres à enchâsser, des pierres brillantes et de diverses couleurs, toutes sortes de pierres précieuses, et du marbre blanc en quantité. 3 De plus, dans mon attachement pour la maison de mon Dieu, je donne à la maison de mon Dieu l’or et l’argent que je possède en propre, outre tout ce que j’ai préparé pour la maison du sanctuaire: 4 trois mille talents d’or, d’or d’Ophir, et sept mille talents d’argent épuré, pour en revêtir les parois des bâtiments, 5 l’or pour ce qui doit être d’or, et l’argent pour ce qui doit être d’argent, et pour tous les travaux qu’exécuteront les ouvriers. Qui veut encore présenter volontairement aujourd’hui ses offrandes à l’Éternel? 6 Les chefs des maisons paternelles, les chefs des tribus d’Israël, les chefs de milliers et de centaines, et les intendants du roi firent volontairement des offrandes. 7 Ils donnèrent pour le service de la maison de Dieu cinq mille talents d’or, dix mille dariques, dix mille talents d’argent, dix-huit mille talents d’airain, et cent mille talents de fer. 8 Ceux qui possédaient des pierres les livrèrent pour le trésor de la maison de l’Éternel entre les mains de Jehiel, le Guerschonite. 9 Le peuple se réjouit de leurs offrandes volontaires, car c’était avec un cœur bien disposé qu’ils les faisaient à l’Éternel; et le roi David en eut aussi une grande joie.
Prière de David
V. 10-19: cf. (Né 9:5, 6. Mt 6:13. Ro 11:36.) Ps 145.10 David bénit l’Éternel en présence de toute l’assemblée. Il dit: Béni sois-tu, d’éternité en éternité, Éternel, Dieu de notre père Israël. 11 A toi, Éternel, la grandeur, la force et la magnificence, l’éternité et la gloire, car tout ce qui est au ciel et sur la terre t’appartient; à toi, Éternel, le règne, car tu t’élèves souverainement au-dessus de tout! 12 C’est de toi que viennent la richesse et la gloire, c’est toi qui domines sur tout, c’est dans ta main que sont la force et la puissance, et c’est ta main qui a le pouvoir d’agrandir et d’affermir toutes choses. 13 Maintenant, ô notre Dieu, nous te louons, et nous célébrons ton nom glorieux. 14 Car qui suis-je et qui est mon peuple, pour que nous puissions te faire volontairement ces offrandes? Tout vient de toi, et nous recevons de ta main ce que nous t’offrons. 15 Nous sommes devant toi des étrangers et des habitants, comme tous nos pères; nos jours sur la terre sont comme l’ombre, et il n’y a point d’espérance. 16 Éternel, notre Dieu, c’est de ta main que viennent toutes ces richesses que nous avons préparées pour te bâtir une maison, à toi, à ton saint nom, et c’est à toi que tout appartient. 17 Je sais, ô mon Dieu, que tu sondes le cœur, et que tu aimes la droiture; aussi je t’ai fait toutes ces offrandes volontaires dans la droiture de mon cœur, et j’ai vu maintenant avec joie ton peuple qui se trouve ici t’offrir volontairement ses dons. 18 Éternel, Dieu d’Abraham, d’Isaac et d’Israël, nos pères, maintiens à toujours dans le cœur de ton peuple ces dispositions et ces pensées, et affermis son cœur en toi. 19 Donne à mon fils Salomon un cœur dévoué à l’observation de tes commandements, de tes préceptes et de tes lois, afin qu’il mette en pratique toutes ces choses, et qu’il bâtisse le palais pour lequel j’ai fait des préparatifs.
V. 20-25: cf. 1 R 8:62-66. (1 R 1:33-39. 2 Ch 1:1.) Ps 72.20 David dit à toute l’assemblée: Bénissez l’Éternel, votre Dieu! Et toute l’assemblée bénit l’Éternel, le Dieu de leurs pères. Ils s’inclinèrent et se prosternèrent devant l’Éternel et devant le roi. 21 Le lendemain de ce jour, ils offrirent en sacrifice et en holocauste à l’Éternel mille taureaux, mille béliers et mille agneaux, avec les libations ordinaires, et d’autres sacrifices en grand nombre pour tout Israël. 22 Ils mangèrent et burent ce jour-là devant l’Éternel avec une grande joie, ils proclamèrent roi pour la seconde fois Salomon, fils de David, ils l’oignirent devant l’Éternel comme chef, et ils oignirent Tsadok comme sacrificateur. 23 Salomon s’assit sur le trône de l’Éternel, comme roi à la place de David, son père. Il prospéra, et tout Israël lui obéit. 24 Tous les chefs et les héros, et même tous les fils du roi David se soumirent au roi Salomon. 25 L’Éternel éleva au plus haut degré Salomon sous les yeux de tout Israël, et il rendit son règne plus éclatant que ne fut celui d’aucun roi d’Israël avant lui.
Sa mort
V. 26-30: cf. (2 S 23:1-5. 1 R 2:10-12.) Ac 13:36.26 David, fils d’Isaï, régna sur tout Israël. 27 Le temps qu’il régna sur Israël fut de quarante ans: à Hébron il régna sept ans, et à Jérusalem il régna trente-trois ans. 28 Il mourut dans une heureuse vieillesse, rassasié de jours, de richesse et de gloire. Et Salomon, son fils, régna à sa place. 29 Les actions du roi David, les premières et les dernières, sont écrites dans le livre de Samuel le voyant, dans le livre de Nathan le prophète, et dans le livre de Gad le prophète, 30 avec tout son règne et tous ses exploits, et ce qui s’est passé de son temps, soit en Israël, soit dans tous les royaumes des autres pays.
Gifts for Building the Temple
1 King David announced to the whole assembly: “My son Solomon is the one whom God has chosen, but he is still young and lacks experience. The work to be done is tremendous, because this is not a palace for people but a temple for the Lord God. 2 I have made every effort to prepare materials for the Temple—gold, silver, bronze, iron, timber, precious stones and gems, stones for mosaics, and quantities of marble. 3 Over and above all this that I have provided, I have given silver and gold from my personal property because of my love for God's Temple. 4 I have given 115 tons of the finest gold and 265 tons of pure silver for decorating the walls of the Temple 5 and for all the objects which the skilled workers are to make. Now who else is willing to give a generous offering to the Lord?”
6 Then the heads of the clans, the officials of the tribes, the commanders of the army, and the administrators of the royal property volunteered to give 7 the following for the work on the Temple: 190 tons of gold, 380 tons of silver, 675 tons of bronze, and 3,750 tons of iron. 8 Those who had precious stones gave them to the Temple treasury, which was administered by Jehiel of the Levite clan of Gershon. 9 The people had given willingly to the Lord, and they were happy that so much had been given. King David also was extremely happy.
David Praises God
10 There in front of the whole assembly King David praised the Lord. He said, “Lord God of our ancestor Jacob, may you be praised forever and ever! 11 You are great and powerful, glorious, splendid, and majestic. Everything in heaven and earth is yours, and you are king, supreme ruler over all. 12 All riches and wealth come from you; you rule everything by your strength and power; and you are able to make anyone great and strong. 13 Now, our God, we give you thanks, and we praise your glorious name.
14 “Yet my people and I cannot really give you anything, because everything is a gift from you, and we have only given back what is yours already. 15 You know, O Lord, that we pass through life like exiles and strangers, as our ancestors did. Our days are like a passing shadow, and we cannot escape death. 16 O Lord, our God, we have brought together all this wealth to build a temple to honor your holy name, but it all came from you and all belongs to you. 17 I know that you test everyone's heart and are pleased with people of integrity. In honesty and sincerity I have willingly given all this to you, and I have seen how your people who are gathered here have been happy to bring offerings to you. 18 Lord God of our ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, keep such devotion forever strong in your people's hearts and keep them always faithful to you. 19 Give my son Solomon a wholehearted desire to obey everything that you command and to build the Temple for which I have made these preparations.”
20 Then David commanded the people, “Praise the Lord your God!” And the whole assembly praised the Lord, the God of their ancestors, and they bowed low and gave honor to the Lord and also to the king.
21 The following day they killed animals as sacrifices, dedicating them to the Lord, and then gave them to the people to eat. In addition, they sacrificed a thousand bulls, a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs, which they burned whole on the altar. They also brought the offerings of wine. 22 So that day they were very happy as they ate and drank in the presence of the Lord.
For a second time they proclaimed Solomon king. In the name of the Lord they anointed him as their ruler and Zadok as priest. 23 So Solomon succeeded his father David on the throne which the Lord had established. He was a successful king, and the whole nation of Israel obeyed him. 24 All the officials and soldiers, and even all of David's other sons, promised to be loyal to Solomon as king. 25 The Lord made the whole nation stand in awe of Solomon, and he made him more glorious than any other king that had ruled Israel.
Summary of David's Reign
26 David son of Jesse ruled over all Israel 27 for forty years. He ruled in Hebron for seven years and in Jerusalem for thirty-three. 28 He died at a ripe old age, wealthy and respected, and his son Solomon succeeded him as king. 29 The history of King David from beginning to end is recorded in the records of the three prophets, Samuel, Nathan, and Gad. 30 The records tell how he ruled, how powerful he was, and all the things that happened to him, to Israel, and to the surrounding kingdoms.
