Des Koréites: Meschélémia, fils de Koré, d’entre les fils d’Asaph. 2 Fils de Meschélémia: Zacharie, le premier-né, Jediaël le second, Zebadia le troisième, Jathniel le quatrième, 3 Élam le cinquième, Jochanan le sixième, Éljoénaï le septième. 4 Fils d’Obed-Édom: Schemaeja, le premier-né, Jozabad le second, Joach le troisième, Sacar le quatrième, Nethaneel le cinquième, 5 Ammiel le sixième, Issacar le septième, Peulthaï le huitième; car Dieu l’avait béni. 6 A Schemaeja, son fils, naquirent des fils qui dominèrent dans la maison de leur père, car ils étaient de vaillants hommes; 7 fils de Schemaeja: Othni, Rephaël, Obed, Elzabad et ses frères, hommes vaillants, Élihu et Semaeja. 8 Tous ceux-là étaient des fils d’Obed-Édom; eux, leurs fils et leurs frères, étaient des hommes pleins de vigueur et de force pour le service, soixante-deux d’Obed-Édom. 9 Les fils et les frères de Meschélémia, hommes vaillants, étaient au nombre de dix-huit. 10 Des fils de Merari: Hosa, qui avait pour fils: Schimri, le chef, établi chef par son père, quoiqu’il ne fût pas le premier-né, 11 Hilkija le second, Thebalia le troisième, Zacharie le quatrième. Tous les fils et les frères de Hosa étaient au nombre de treize. 12 A ces classes de portiers, aux chefs de ces hommes et à leurs frères, fut remise la garde pour le service de la maison de l’Éternel. 13 Ils tirèrent au sort pour chaque porte, petits et grands, selon leurs maisons paternelles. 14 Le sort échut à Schélémia pour le côté de l’orient. On tira au sort pour Zacharie, son fils, qui était un sage conseiller, et le côté du septentrion lui échut par le sort. 15 Le côté du midi échut à Obed-Édom, et la maison des magasins à ses fils. 16 Le côté de l’occident échut à Schuppim et à Hosa, avec la porte Schalléketh, sur le chemin montant: une garde était vis-à-vis de l’autre. 17 Il y avait à l’orient six Lévites, au nord quatre par jour, au midi quatre par jour, et quatre aux magasins en deux places différentes; 18 du côté du faubourg, à l’occident, quatre vers le chemin, deux vers le faubourg. 19 Ce sont là les classes des portiers, d’entre les fils des Koréites et d’entre les fils de Merari. 20 L’un des Lévites, Achija, avait l’intendance des trésors de la maison de Dieu et des trésors des choses saintes. 21 Parmi les fils de Laedan, les fils des Guerschonites issus de Laedan, chefs des maisons paternelles de Laedan le Guerschonite, c’étaient Jehiéli, 22 et les fils de Jehiéli, Zétham et Joël, son frère, qui gardaient les trésors de la maison de l’Éternel. 23 Parmi les Amramites, les Jitseharites, les Hébronites et les Uziélites, 24 c’était Schebuel, fils de Guerschom, fils de Moïse, qui était intendant des trésors. 25 Parmi ses frères issus d’Éliézer, dont le fils fut Rechabia, dont le fils fut Ésaïe, dont le fils fut Joram, dont le fils fut Zicri, dont le fils fut Schelomith, 26 c’étaient Schelomith et ses frères qui gardaient tous les trésors des choses saintes qu’avaient consacrées le roi David, les chefs des maisons paternelles, les chefs de milliers et de centaines, et les chefs de l’armée: 27 c’était sur le butin pris à la guerre qu’ils les avaient consacrées pour l’entretien de la maison de l’Éternel. 28 Tout ce qui avait été consacré par Samuel, le voyant, par Saül, fils de Kis, par Abner, fils de Ner, par Joab, fils de Tseruja, toutes les choses consacrées étaient sous la garde de Schelomith et de ses frères.

(1 Ch 23:4. 2 Ch 19:8-11.)29 Parmi les Jitseharites, Kenania et ses frères étaient employés pour les affaires extérieures, comme magistrats et juges en Israël. 30 Parmi les Hébronites, Haschabia et ses frères, hommes vaillants, au nombre de mille sept cents, avaient la surveillance d’Israël, de l’autre côté du Jourdain, à l’occident, pour toutes les affaires de l’Éternel et pour le service du roi. 31 En ce qui concerne les Hébronites, dont Jerija était le chef, on fit, la quarantième année du règne de David, des recherches à leur égard d’après leurs généalogies et leurs maisons paternelles, et l’on trouva parmi eux de vaillants hommes à Jaezer en Galaad. 32 Les frères de Jerija, hommes vaillants, étaient au nombre de deux mille sept cents chefs de maisons paternelles. Le roi David les établit sur les Rubénites, sur les Gadites et sur la demi-tribu de Manassé pour toutes les affaires de Dieu et pour les affaires du roi.
The Temple Guards
1 These are the assignments of work for the Levites who served as Temple guards. From the clan of Korah there was Meshelemiah son of Kore, of the family of Asaph. 2 He had seven sons, listed in order of age: Zechariah, Jediael, Zebadiah, Jathniel, 3 Elam, Jehohanan, and Eliehoenai.
4 There was also Obed Edom, whom God blessed by giving him eight sons, listed in order of age: Shemaiah, Jehozabad, Joah, Sachar, Nethanel, 5 Ammiel, Issachar, and Peullethai.
6-7 Obed Edom's oldest son, Shemaiah, had six sons: Othni, Rephael, Obed, Elzabad, Elihu, and Semachiah. They were important men in their clan because of their great ability; the last two were especially talented.
8 Obed Edom's family furnished a total of sixty-two highly qualified men for this work.
9 Meshelemiah's family furnished eighteen qualified men.
10 From the clan of Merari there was Hosah, who had four sons: Shimri (his father made him the leader, even though he was not the oldest son), 11 Hilkiah, Tebaliah, and Zechariah. In all there were thirteen members of Hosah's family who were Temple guards.
12 The Temple guards were divided into groups, according to families, and they were assigned duties in the Temple, just as the other Levites were. 13 Each family, regardless of size, drew lots to see which gate it would be responsible for. 14 Shelemiah drew the east gate, and his son Zechariah, a man who always gave good advice, drew the north gate. 15 Obed Edom was allotted the south gate, and his sons were allotted to guard the storerooms. 16 Shuppim and Hosah were allotted the west gate and the Shallecheth Gate on the upper road. Guard duty was divided into assigned periods, one after another. 17 On the east, six guards were on duty each day, on the north, four, and on the south, four. Four guards were stationed at the storerooms daily, two at each storeroom. 18 Near the western pavilion there were four guards by the road and two at the pavilion itself. 19 This is the assignment of guard duty to the clan of Korah and the clan of Merari.
Other Temple Duties
20 Others of their fellow Levites were in charge of the Temple treasury and the storerooms for gifts dedicated to God. 21 Ladan, one of the sons of Gershon, was the ancestor of several family groups, including the family of his son Jehiel. 22 Ladan's two other sons, Zetham and Joel, had charge of the Temple treasury and storerooms.
23 Duties were also assigned to the descendants of Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.
24 Shebuel, of the clan of Moses' son Gershom, was the chief official responsible for the Temple treasury. 25 Through Gershom's brother Eliezer he was related to Shelomith. Eliezer was the father of Rehabiah, who was the father of Jeshaiah, the father of Joram, the father of Zichri, the father of Shelomith. 26 Shelomith and the members of his family were in charge of all the gifts dedicated to God by King David, the heads of families, leaders of clan groups, and army officers. 27 They took some of the loot they captured in battle and dedicated it for use in the Temple. 28 Shelomith and his family were in charge of everything that had been dedicated for use in the Temple, including the gifts brought by the prophet Samuel, by King Saul, by Abner son of Ner, and by Joab son of Zeruiah.
Duties of Other Levites
29 Among the descendants of Izhar, Chenaniah and his sons were assigned administrative duties: keeping records and settling disputes for the people of Israel.
30 Among the descendants of Hebron, Hashabiah and seventeen hundred of his relatives, all outstanding men, were put in charge of the administration of all religious and civil matters in Israel west of the Jordan River. 31 Jeriah was the leader of the descendants of Hebron. In the fortieth year that David was king, an investigation was made of the family line of Hebron's descendants, and outstanding soldiers belonging to this family were found living at Jazer in the territory of Gilead. 32 King David chose twenty-seven hundred outstanding heads of families from Jeriah's relatives and put them in charge of administering all religious and civil matters in Israel east of the Jordan River—the territories of Reuben, Gad, and East Manasseh.
