Peter and John Are Brought in Front of the Council
1 The apostles were still talking to the people, when some priests, the captain of the temple guard, and some Sadducees arrived. 2 These men were angry because the apostles were teaching the people that the dead would be raised from death, just as Jesus had been raised from death. 3 It was already late in the afternoon, and they arrested Peter and John and put them in jail for the night. 4 But a lot of people who had heard the message believed it. So by now there were about 5,000 followers of the Lord.
5 The next morning the leaders, the elders, and the teachers of the Law of Moses met in Jerusalem. 6 The high priest Annas was there, as well as Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and other members of the high priest's family. 7 They brought in Peter and John and made them stand in the middle while they questioned them. They asked, “By what power and in whose name have you done this?”
8 Peter was filled with the Holy Spirit and told the nation's leaders and the elders:
9 You are questioning us today about a kind deed in which a man who could not walk was healed. 10 But there is something we must tell you and everyone else in Israel. This man is standing here completely well because of the power of Jesus Christ from Nazareth. You put Jesus to death on a cross, but God raised him to life. 11 He is the stone you builders thought was worthless, and now he is the most important stone of all. 12 Only Jesus has the power to save! His name is the only one in all the world that can save anyone.
13 The officials were amazed to see how brave Peter and John were, and they knew that these two apostles were only ordinary men and not well educated. The officials were certain these men had been with Jesus. 14 But they could not deny what had happened. The man who had been healed was standing there with the apostles.
15 The officials commanded them to leave the council room. Then the officials said to each other, 16 “What can we do with these men? Everyone in Jerusalem knows about this miracle, and we cannot say it didn't happen. 17 But to keep this thing from spreading, we will warn them never again to speak to anyone about the name of Jesus.” 18 So they called the two apostles back in and told them they must never, for any reason, teach anything about the name of Jesus.
19 Peter and John answered, “Do you think God wants us to obey you or to obey him? 20 We cannot keep quiet about what we have seen and heard.”
21-22 The officials could not find any reason to punish Peter and John. So they threatened them and let them go. The man who was healed by this miracle was more than 40 years old, and everyone was praising God for what had happened.
Peter and Others Pray for Courage
23 As soon as Peter and John had been set free, they went back and told the others everything the chief priests and the leaders had said to them. 24 When the rest of the Lord's followers heard this, they prayed together and said:
Master, you created heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them. 25 And by the Holy Spirit you spoke to our ancestor David. He was your servant, and you told him to say:
“Why are all the Gentiles
so furious?
Why do people
make foolish plans?
26 The kings of earth
prepare for war,
and the rulers
join together
against the Lord
and his Messiah.”
27 Here in Jerusalem, Herod and Pontius Pilate got together with the Gentiles and the people of Israel. Then they turned against your holy Servant Jesus, your chosen Messiah. 28 They did what you in your power and wisdom had already decided would happen.
29 Lord, listen to their threats! We are your servants. So make us brave enough to speak your message. 30 Show your mighty power, as we heal people and work miracles and wonders in the name of your holy Servant Jesus.
31 After they had prayed, the meeting place shook. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and bravely spoke God's message.
Sharing Possessions
32 The group of followers all felt the same way about everything. None of them claimed that their possessions were their own, and they shared everything they had with each other. 33 In a powerful way the apostles told everyone that the Lord Jesus was now alive. God greatly blessed his followers, 34 and no one went in need of anything. Everyone who owned land or houses would sell them and bring the money 35 to the apostles. Then they would give the money to anyone in need.
36-37 Joseph was one of the followers who had sold a piece of property and brought the money to the apostles. He was a Levite from Cyprus, and the apostles called him Barnabas, which means “one who encourages others.”

Jn 15:20, Jn 21. 1 Pi 3:14, 1 15.1 Tandis que Pierre et Jean parlaient au peuple, survinrent les sacrificateurs, le commandant du temple, et les sadducéens, 2 mécontents de ce qu’ils enseignaient le peuple, et annonçaient en la personne de Jésus la résurrection des morts. 3 Ils mirent les mains sur eux, et ils les jetèrent en prison jusqu’au lendemain; car c’était déjà le soir. 4 Cependant, beaucoup de ceux qui avaient entendu la parole crurent, et le nombre des hommes s’éleva à environ cinq mille. 5 Le lendemain, les chefs du peuple, les anciens et les scribes, s’assemblèrent à Jérusalem, 6 avec Anne, le souverain sacrificateur, Caïphe, Jean, Alexandre, et tous ceux qui étaient de la race des principaux sacrificateurs. 7 Ils firent placer au milieu d’eux Pierre et Jean, et leur demandèrent: Par quel pouvoir, ou au nom de qui avez-vous fait cela? 8 Alors Pierre, rempli du Saint-Esprit, leur dit: Chefs du peuple, et anciens d’Israël, 9 puisque nous sommes interrogés aujourd’hui sur un bienfait accordé à un homme malade, afin que nous disions comment il a été guéri, 10 sachez-le tous, et que tout le peuple d’Israël le sache! C’est par le nom de Jésus-Christ de Nazareth, que vous avez crucifié, et que Dieu a ressuscité des morts, c’est par lui que cet homme se présente en pleine santé devant vous. 11 Jésus est
La pierre rejetée par vous qui bâtissez,
Et qui est devenue la principale de l’angle. 12 Il n’y a de salut en aucun autre; car il n’y a sous le ciel aucun autre nom qui ait été donné parmi les hommes, par lequel nous devions être sauvés. 13 Lorsqu’ils virent l’assurance de Pierre et de Jean, ils furent étonnés, sachant que c’étaient des hommes du peuple sans instruction; et ils les reconnurent pour avoir été avec Jésus. 14 Mais comme ils voyaient là près d’eux l’homme qui avait été guéri, ils n’avaient rien à répliquer. 15 Ils leur ordonnèrent de sortir du sanhédrin, et ils délibérèrent entre eux, disant: Que ferons-nous à ces hommes? 16 Car il est manifeste pour tous les habitants de Jérusalem qu’un miracle signalé a été accompli par eux, et nous ne pouvons pas le nier. 17 Mais, afin que la chose ne se répande pas davantage parmi le peuple, défendons-leur avec menaces de parler désormais à qui que ce soit en ce nom-là. 18 Et les ayant appelés, ils leur défendirent absolument de parler et d’enseigner au nom de Jésus. 19 Pierre et Jean leur répondirent: Jugez s’il est juste, devant Dieu, de vous obéir plutôt qu’à Dieu; 20 car nous ne pouvons pas ne pas parler de ce que nous avons vu et entendu. 21 Ils leur firent de nouvelles menaces, et les relâchèrent, ne sachant comment les punir, à cause du peuple, parce que tous glorifiaient Dieu de ce qui était arrivé. 22 Car l’homme qui avait été l’objet de cette guérison miraculeuse était âgé de plus de quarante ans.

Mt 18:19, 20.)23 Après avoir été relâchés, ils allèrent vers les leurs, et racontèrent tout ce que les principaux sacrificateurs et les anciens leur avaient dit. 24 Lorsqu’ils l’eurent entendu, ils élevèrent à Dieu la voix tous ensemble, et dirent: Seigneur, toi qui as fait le ciel, la terre, la mer, et tout ce qui s’y trouve, 25 c’est toi qui as dit par le Saint-Esprit, par la bouche de notre père, ton serviteur David:
Pourquoi ce tumulte parmi les nations,
Et ces vaines pensées parmi les peuples?
26 Les rois de la terre se sont soulevés,
Et les princes se sont ligués
Contre le Seigneur et contre son Oint. 27 En effet, contre ton saint serviteur Jésus, que tu as oint, Hérode et Ponce Pilate se sont ligués dans cette ville avec les nations et avec les peuples d’Israël, 28 pour faire tout ce que ta main et ton conseil avaient arrêté d’avance. 29 Et maintenant, Seigneur, vois leurs menaces, et donne à tes serviteurs d’annoncer ta parole avec une pleine assurance, 30 en étendant ta main, pour qu’il se fasse des guérisons, des miracles et des prodiges, par le nom de ton saint serviteur Jésus. 31 Quand ils eurent prié, le lieu où ils étaient assemblés trembla; ils furent tous remplis du Saint-Esprit, et ils annonçaient la parole de Dieu avec assurance.
Union et charité des croyants
V. 32-37: cf. Ac 2:44-47. 1 Jn 3:16-19. Lu 12:33. 2 Co 8:13-152 9:9.32 La multitude de ceux qui avaient cru n’était qu’un cœur et qu’une âme. Nul ne disait que ses biens lui appartinssent en propre, mais tout était commun entre eux. 33 Les apôtres rendaient avec beaucoup de force témoignage de la résurrection du Seigneur Jésus. Et une grande grâce reposait sur eux tous. 34 Car il n’y avait parmi eux aucun indigent: tous ceux qui possédaient des champs ou des maisons les vendaient, apportaient le prix de ce qu’ils avaient vendu, 35 et le déposaient aux pieds des apôtres; et l’on faisait des distributions à chacun selon qu’il en avait besoin. 36 Joseph, surnommé par les apôtres Barnabas, ce qui signifie fils d’exhortation, Lévite, originaire de Chypre, 37 vendit un champ qu’il possédait, apporta l’argent, et le déposa aux pieds des apôtres.
